Moving work from Illustrator

  1. In Illustrator, choose File → Export → Export As, pick SVG, and set Styling to “Presentation Attributes” or “Internal CSS”.
  2. Drop the SVG on this page. Vectopea reads CSS classes, nested transforms, gradients and <use>/<symbol>.
  3. Edit, then export readable or minified SVG, or PNG at 1×–4×.

Questions

Is there a free alternative to Adobe Illustrator?

Yes. For SVG work such as icons, logos, UI graphics and web illustrations, Vectopea is free and runs in the browser. Inkscape is a free desktop option. Neither replaces Illustrator's full print and publishing workflow.

Will my Illustrator shortcuts work?

The core ones do: V select, A direct select, P pen, M rectangle, T type, Ctrl/Cmd+G group, Ctrl/Cmd+D duplicate, Ctrl/Cmd+0 fit artboard, Shift+X swap fill and stroke, Space to pan and Alt-drag to duplicate.

Can I open .ai files?

Not directly. In Illustrator choose File → Save As → SVG (or Export → Export As → SVG), then open the SVG in Vectopea.

What's missing compared to Illustrator?

CMYK colour, PDF/EPS/AI output, multiple artboards per document, image trace, brushes and advanced typography. Vectopea is focused on editing and exporting SVG and PNG.
